LBUCC JUSTICE COMMITTEE

"We need in every community a group of angelic troublemakers."  - Bayard Rustin

This quote exemplifies the work that Loomis UCC's Justice Committee seeks to do.  We focus on various aspects of social justice and emphasize these areas: LGBTQ+, racial justice, environmental justice, and immigration.  In the church's newsletters, we provide information to educate our members about pertinent issues and also provide resources and ways people can get involved.
From collecting and donating items for Afghan refugees to participating in protests and PRIDE events to recycling and reducing our carbon footprint, our community walks the walk.  We are an action-oriented group that continually shows up for those in need of our support, resources, and voices.

The Issues:

WE ARE COMMITED TO ELIMINATING
INJUSTICE, BIGOTRY AND RACISM, AND TO WORK
FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND EQUALITY FOR ALL PEOPLE

Black Lives Matter

We are one of the very few Christian churches that are leading bold and courageous conversations, engaging in direct social activism, and participating in civil disobedience as a way to bring attention to and disrupt racist systems and structures.

LGBTQ+ Rights

The first national UCC body to affirm civil rights for LGBTQ people did so in 1969.

Immigration

The United Church of Christ has a long history of solidarity in the struggle for dignity and human rights for immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees regardless of their immigration status.

Policy

We invite you to explore the breadth and depth of the UCC’s justice work. Join us in building a stronger faith-based movement for peace, justice, equality and inclusivity. Our work is rooted in the teachings of scripture and the policies of our General Synod.

Environmental Justice

From the birth of the environmental justice movement in the 1980s to the local ministries of churches throughout the country today, the United Church of Christ has been making a profound difference in caring for God’s creation.

Who We Are

We are a church community of action-oriented individuals who have a common principle of standing up for others.
We will use this common ground to fight against any form of injustice:
Stripping away a woman's right to choose is injustice.
Placing the second amendment over people's lives is injustice.
Making it more difficult to vote is injustice.
Refusing to recognize marriage other than between a man and a woman is injustice.
Gauging gas prices is injustice.
Skyrocketing rent increases and baby formula shortages are injustices.
