JOB DESCRIPTION: Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry
(Part-Time)
  • 15 hours per week
  • $31/hour
  • Annual Budgeted Compensation: $24,180
The Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry provides spiritual support, community engagement, and leadership development for youth and young adults at Loomis UCC. In collaboration with church staff and volunteers, this role focuses on inclusive faith formation and relationship-building through the creation of meaningful opportunities for connection. This role balances programming that promotes youth engagement with one another, the wider church, and the broader community.
 
Weekly Responsibilities:

Youth Group Programming
  • Plan, promote, and facilitate two Wednesday evening youth groups with an overlapping shared dinner:
    • Middle School (6th–8th grade) 5:30-7pm
    • Shared Dinner for both groups: 6:30-7pm
    • High School (9th–12th grade) 6:30-8pm
  • Coordinate:
    • A volunteer to provide dinner each week
    • A second adult (fingerprinted and background-checked) present for all youth gatherings
    • Involving students in leadership roles and program development
Communication
  • Send a weekly email to youth and families with:
    • Upcoming events and important announcements
    • Details for the week's youth group
Sunday Worship & Church Presence
  • Attend Sunday worship at 10:00 AM at Loomis UCC
  • Sunday responsibilities may include and are not limited to:
    • Leading the Children’s Moment and/or another worship element (announcements, Time/Talent/Treasure, etc.)
    • Encouraging and coordinating youth participation in worship
    • Greeting visitors and intentionally connecting with new youth, young adults, and families
    • Annual Sunday morning preaching/reflection 
Support & Collaboration
  • Provide as-needed relational support to youth, young adults, and families through:
    • Community meetups
    • Mentorship
    • Being a trusted, safe adult within healthy professional boundaries
  • Attend a weekly 1-hour staff meeting with Senior Pastor and Worship Leader

Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Plan, promote, and co-facilitate one Young Adult (ages 18–26) event per month in collaboration with the Senior Pastor
  • Create and manage promotional content for youth and young adult programming on the church website and social media 
  • Operate within the allotted youth & young adult ministry budget, including submitting reimbursements as needed
  • Attend and promote youth and young adult participation in special church events, averaging one event every other month (e.g., Placer Pride, MLK Day, Family Camp, Church Talent Show)

Annual & Occasional Responsibilities (may change over time):
  • Fundraise to support scholarship needs for overnight trips & special events
  • Maintain and comply with church Safe Space Policy
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee:
    • Youth Sunday (November)
    • Senior Sunday (May)
  • Create and deliver one (or more) Sunday sermon/reflection(s) per year under supervision of Senior Pastor
  • Plan, coordinate, and accompany youth on:
    • One 4–7 day overnight Summer Trip annually
    • 1–2 NCNC UCC conference events or retreats (2-night overnights) per year
  • Participate in professional development opportunities 
  • Plan, promote, and facilitate 2–3 special youth events per year, such as:
    • Local community service projects
    • Social outings (ie: bowling, hiking)
    • Arts and cultural experiences

Qualifications:

Required
  • Applicants must be at least 23 years old (for insurance purposes)
  • Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with youth and/or young adults in a faith-based, community, or educational setting (including volunteer experience)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with youth, young adults, families, and volunteers within professional boundaries
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Loomis UCC, including support for LGBTQ+ inclusive, justice-oriented, progressive Christian ministry
  • Ability to pass Livescan and FBI Background check and participate in mandated reporter training

Optimal Qualifications & Skills (the church will support staff member in optimal skill development)
  • Experience with curriculum development or lesson planning for youth and young adults
  • Experience in event planning and coordination, including overnight trips and retreats
  • Ability to create promotional content for social media, newsletters, and church communications
  • Familiarity with progressive Christian theology and social justice advocacy
